Greece is a nation steeped in history, culture, and tradition. It is the largest Balkan economy and the largest foreign investor to other Balkan states. Thus, it plays a key role in the economic functioning of southeastern Europe. However, during the 2008-2009 global recession, Greece was hit hard. Up until 2014, Greece experienced major shrinking in their economy. Now the country is finally experiencing economic growth, thanks in many ways to the efforts to balance their national budget. With continuing improvements made by the government, the country is posed for a resurgence.
